Well, surprise, surprise, I am wearing a pair of nice jeans that I had put in the back of my closet because I could not button them and still breathe. Today, it was no issue. I don’t weigh myself as I get too disappointed when the weight loss appears minimal. But, when I can put on a clothing item that I couldn’t wear before, that’s a big deal for me. Boot Camp wears me out and I know my age has a little to do with it (58). But I don’t want to punk out at this point. I really want to keep trying. Thanks so much, you are so GREAT at what you do and I really have enjoyed your class.

I had been thinking and talking about working with a personal trainer for years. Well, the years went by and I found myself on the verge of age 40 and struggling to keep any sort of physical fitness routine. My weight was up and down, depending on if I was able to carve out some time in a pretty busy schedule to take a quick run or bike ride.
Early in 2007, my path crossed with Mary Glover and she very kindly offered to give me a complimentary personal training session. I jumped at the chance, although at first dreaded having to get up a little earlier in the morning to do so. To make a long story short – our first session has turned in to quite a few, and it’s been one of the best decisions I have ever made! Mary provides the right balance of pushing and encouraging, and her knowledge of all things physical fitness – from nutrition to weight-training, to the correct way to use the equipment and making recommendations on the right shoes – is only the tip of the iceberg. We are meeting weight management goals, I am gaining muscle strength and endurance, and I feel better today than I have in many years. I look forward to each visit and session, and have moved into “self-directed” workouts with Mary’s guidance and support.

The Louisville Bicycle Club’s Racing Team, Team Louisville, began a strength training Program with Time Out Fitness as part of our preparation for the upcoming racing season. I wanted to get back into working out, but I knew that I couldn’t do it on my own safely. I’d had three knee surgeries (both knees) and two back surgeries since I’d used any exercise equipment. I decided to choose Mary Glover at Time Out Fitness as my trainer and was pleasantly surprised. She showed me how to use the equipment properly and safely, gave me advice with my eating plan, and was there for me throughout the process. This was not a “Here you go, see you later” deal. She guided me through workouts and encouraged me. The entire program was based on my capabilities and took into consideration my physical limitations. Within the first two months, I lost three percent body fat (20% to 17%), strengthened my entire body, increased stamina and flexibility. My ten year old son said that he noticed a difference in how I looked. I was thrilled that I had accomplished this in just working out 2 times per week. Mary is a trainer that practices what she preaches and I would recommend her services to anyone. She has helped me to achieve and surpass all of my goals for getting fit again.

I had been considering a personal trainer for over a year when a friend had been referred to Mary and invited me to consider joining her. At the very first meeting with Mary, I could tell that she was the right person to help with my goals. After a few injuries that took me out of regular involvement in the gym and sports teams, I didn’t like the way my ‘slow down’ influenced my physical energy and weight.

Everyone had warned me about the “freshmen fifteen” but I wasn’t too worried. Throughout my high school years, I was a healthy, moderately active young guy who struggled to put on weight, not lose it. But after almost three years of fast food and nearly no physical activity in college, I ballooned from 150 lbs to 245 lbs - I’d gained 95 lbs!

I knew that I had to do something but what? I knew that my eating was awful, but I didn’t know how to fix it. I had tried going to the gym and exercising, but I could never stick it out. Then I ran across Mary Glover’s website. My first thought was “A personal trainer. Maybe that’s what I need.” I immediately decided to contact her. I’m glad that I did.

When I first met with Mary, I had two main concerns. 1) Could I afford to have a personal trainer? Wasn’t that something for the celebrities and the super wealthy? Wrong. Mary’s pricing list was surprisingly affordable for even me, a poor college student. 2) Would meeting with Mary be like meeting with my high school gym teacher? Coach was always yelling “Go faster! Go harder! You’re disappointing me.” I felt like his personal whipping boy. Wasn’t that what having a trainer would be like? Wrong. Mary is one of the most warm, generous, and personable people I’ve met. She was always encouraging me to go a little farther, to push a little harder. Before I knew it, I was losing weight and gaining muscle.

In just eight weeks, I lost 3% body fat, decreased 8.8 lbs of fat weight and gained 6.3 lbs of muscle weight. Mary did a lot for me, but most importantly, she taught me how to take care of myself. I’m still exercising and trying to eat right. I still have a ways to go, but thanks to Mary Glover, I know I can do it. Thanks, Mary!
